Bishop Ignatius was a great 19th century Russian monastic leader and teacher of the Church, who wrote this book initially for Orthodox monks and nuns—however, much of the book is applicable to the spiritual life of lay people in today's world. An austere call to a more ascetic life, with detailed information about the Jesus Prayer and warnings about "fake" spirituality, this book is highly recommended.
